When it comes to composition and mechanical properties, Stainless Steel 420 is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that contains around 12–14% chromium and 0.15–0.40% carbon, along with small amounts of manganese and silicon. Once hardened and tempered, it boasts a remarkable tensile strength of up to 100,000 psi and excellent wear resistance, falling within a Rockwell hardness range of 50–55 HRC. Although it doesn’t offer the same level of corrosion resistance as austenitic grades, 420 still holds up well in mild environments, fresh water, and certain chemicals.
